I just veiwed this video clip based on teacher education program being a profession, I have to agree with Dr. Meadows. As a former student from years ago and a student looking into various schools to obtain a masters in either education or in Montessori, I find it hard to believe the universe of teaching humans is so diverse in its methodology. the standards are based upon someones “ideology” instead of scientific fact. Education has been around for many years it is hard to understand that as humans we still have not the clue or the sense to teach our young ones appropriately to prepare them for the life the is ahead of them. Yet we claim that we are the smarter species of the animal kingdom, animals prepare their young for the best survival, we send ours to school and hope that someone else can raise our young to survive because we are conditioned as a society that teachers can do better than the parents bases on years of studies and research that is now required of the teachers. The sad awaking is there is a money making era that is far more interested in turning over curriculum, books and adult education seminars, grants and classes instead of being true to our education goals; to teach a child so the can be strong in life no matter what they do. Montessori has hardly changed in many years and I feel that is why the children are successful, based on scientific observation and repetition ; until the child knows the information. This is why the montessorian should be known as “the professional”! A montessorian is a true teacher.
