PAMS was organized in 1976 because the founders recognized that in order to train teachers to honor Maria Montessori’s research, a rigorous, research based research and training organization was needed. PAMS approach was developed to address gaps in other Montessori approaches. PAMS believes it has:
-
The highest standards for preparing teachers for teaching child birth to 5 years old (birth to 2 ½, and 3 years to 6 years). The society not only instructs teachers on how to use the materials, but also on how to observe and honor each child, and requires 400 hours of classroom experience before a teacher is certified.
-
A research based approach to Montessori that requires credible evidence before an adjustment is made to the methodology.
-
PAMS can operate in an early childhood center, a daycare, and in special education classrooms.
-
A very strong language program developed in the 1970’s by Dr. Meadows based on research for children with learning disabilities with Scottish Rite Children’s Hospital Early Learning Center in Dallas, TX when it was developed for children with dyslexia. Research based;
-
A strong Math Program: more purely Montessori revised by Sorge (an early Montessori collaborator).
-
An enriched Practical Life Program that places significantly more emphasis on these activities because they develop the confidence in the young learners to master other subjects in the classroom.
